Children's Religious Education Program

Responsibilities of Parents

Parents are reminded, when you asked to have your children baptized, you explicitly promised to "bring them up in the practice of the faith." This certainly includes attendance at Sunday Mass and religious instructions.

Parents are expected to help their child/children practice faith formation by bringing them to class every Sunday and to Mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation. Our Religious Education program attends Mass, as a group (Grades 1-8), on the first Sunday of each month. All children are expected to attend. A written note is required if, for some reason, your child cannot attend.

Anyone with serious extenuating circumstances regarding regular attendance must meet with the director to create an alternate plan that will meet the program requirements.

Responsibilities of Students

Students are required to have regular, punctual attendance. Obviously, this is also a parent responsibility since it is your obligation to see that this happens. All students are expected to obey their teachers at all times. A child can be removed from class for misbehavior and/or failure to follow the teacher's directions. Assignments made are expected to be completed.

Sacraments

Sacrament preparation requires two years of classes. (Gr. 1-2; Gr. 7-8) Other than regularly scheduled weekly attendance, and attendance at monthly Mass, there are additional requirements for both the First Communion class and the Confirmation class. All retreats, service projects, and practices have mandatory attendance policies. Dates will be provided in advance for all activities.

If your child attends a Catholic school, a registration form is needed for 2nd and 8th grade for children receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion, and/or Confirmation. He/she is welcome, but not required, to attend Religious Education classes. Students from Catholic school, preparing for the sacraments, must participate in parish practices, retreats, and service projects.

Safety

All doors of the school will be locked while classes are in session. Classes begin at 9 A.M. and are dismissed at 10:15 A.M. Please pick up your child on the Scott Street side of the building. If you are parked across the street, you must come to pick up your child; no child will be allowed to cross alone.

Please try to avoid taking your child from class early. If, for some reason, you must have your child dismissed early, a note is required. No child will be permitted to leave without a written excuse; he/she will be dismissed when you arrive.

Messages/Cancellations

Your cell phone number and/or e-mail is entered into REMIND (https://www.remind.com) so that you receive all messages from our program. The code for CCD messages is 3fbb9k.

Other Information

If you have questions or concerns, please speak to the director.

If your child has not consistently attended Religious Education, additional work will be provided, and must be completed, prior to entering the grade requested.

Your cooperation in making our program a successful, worthwhile learning experience is very much appreciated. Participation in the faith is as important as the content taught. Thank you, parents, for encouraging your child/children to attend and participate and for helping us to teach them the importance of learning and practicing their Catholic faith.
